22 veterans commit suicide every day. Trauma and mental health distress can deeply impact our relationships, our perception of the world around us, and our hope for the future. We do not believe veterans and first responders should walk through mental wellness alone. We believe in the power of community and the water for healing and hope.

It’s our goal at Third Coast Rising to provide a wellness community on the water to promote mental health, healing, and connection for veterans and first responders who experience depression, anxiety, PTSD, and more.  Growing research suggests that surf therapy has effective, therapeutic benefits to those who have experienced trauma.  In addition, surfing provides the possibility of entering a "flow state," which allows us to be fully present in our bodies in a task.  Flow states not only provide some respite from current stressors, but they promote growth and creativity in ourselves.

Our free program consists of 8-week terms for small groups to come to the waters of Lake Michigan and learn to surf or paddle board alongside instructors. Yoga, mobility work, and wellness coaching come alongside our water program to provide a holistic approach to growth. What does a veteran or first responder need to join the program? Just a willingness to give a community of wellness a try. We provide the wetsuits, boards, and more.
